About the tides at Gowanus Bay

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.7 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at NEW YORK (The Battery). On a typical day the water moves about 4.6 ft between high and low. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 6.1 ft, comes on October 10, and the smallest, 4.7 ft, on Saturday.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at NEW YORK (The Battery), with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is New York (The Battery), 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 18 min later. For tidal currents, see Gowanus Bay Entrance.

Predictions are based on NEW YORK (The Battery).

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
