About the tides at Hobe Sound bridge
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.1 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Government Cut, Miami Harbor Entrance. The mean range is small, about 1.5 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.8 ft. The next spring tides peak tomorrow, with a range of 2.0 ft. Neap tides follow on October 19, when the range shrinks to 0.7 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.3 ft on September 29, and the lowest is −0.8 ft on January 23.
Hobe Sound bridge is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Government Cut, Miami Harbor Entrance: highs come about 88 min and lows about 145 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1969 to 1973 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Gomez, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 5 min later.
