About the tides at Hobe Sound
Hobe Sound has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Miami Beach, Government Cut. The mean range is small, about 1.7 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.0 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 26, with a range of 2.4 ft. Neap tides follow on Monday, when the range shrinks to 0.9 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.5 ft on September 29, and the lowest is −0.8 ft on January 23.
Hobe Sound is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Miami Beach, Government Cut: highs come about 76 min and lows about 132 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1972 to 1973 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Hobe Sound bridge, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 12 min later.
Predictions are based on Miami Beach, Government Cut.
