About the tides at Hollingsworth Point

Most days here have a single high and a single low. Around neap tides the pattern can blur into small double tides. The pattern follows the reference station at South Pass. Water here rises and falls only about 1.6 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.8 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 3.1 ft on October 30 and bottom out at −1.6 ft on January 20.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at South Pass, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1979 to 1980 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Ocean Springs, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 35 min earlier.
