About the tides at Hollywood Beach

Hollywood Beach has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Reedy Point, C&d Canal. Water here rises and falls only about 1.1 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most New Jersey stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 1.3 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 1.0 ft, today. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 1.4 ft on August 3 and bottom out at −0.2 ft on January 24.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Reedy Point, C&d Canal, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Weir Creek bridge, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 2 h 39 m earlier.
