About the tides at Hope Creek
Hope Creek has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Fort Pulaski, Savannah River Entrance. The range is large, about 5.6 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 6.1 ft. The next spring tides peak today, with a range of 6.7 ft. Neap tides follow on Sunday, when the range shrinks to 5.5 ft.
Hope Creek is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Fort Pulaski, Savannah River Entrance: highs come about 106 min and lows about 133 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1978 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Penny Creek, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 24 min later. For tidal currents, see Smuggedy Swamp, South Edisto River.
Predictions are based on Fort Pulaski, Savannah River Entrance.
