About the tides at Hyder

Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Portland Canal, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. The tide range here is very large, about 14.0 ft on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 16.5 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 23.4 ft. Neap tides follow on November 1, when the range shrinks to 8.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 20.6 ft on November 25, and the lowest is −4.4 ft on July 5.

This is a prediction station. NOAA calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. NOAA measured the tide here in 2022 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Stewart, 0.8 mi away. For tidal currents, see Lion Point.

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
