About the tides at Makah Bay

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Toke Point, Willapa Bay. The range is large, about 6.6 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 8.8 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 11.1 ft on December 24, and the lowest is −3.1 ft on July 5.

Makah Bay is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Toke Point, Willapa Bay: highs come about 25 min and lows about 28 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1978 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Neah Bay, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 15 min later. For tidal currents, see Strait of Juan de Fuca Entrance.

Predictions are based on Toke Point, Willapa Bay.
