About the tides at Marion

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.5 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Newport, Narragansett Bay. On a typical day the water moves about 3.8 ft between high and low. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 5.1 ft, comes today, and the smallest, 2.0 ft, on October 18. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 5.6 ft on September 2 and bottom out at −1.1 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Newport, Narragansett Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1976 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Piney Point, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 5 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Sippican Harbor.

Predictions are based on Newport, Narragansett Bay.
