About the tides at Matawan Creek

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.7 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Sandy Hook. The range is large, about 5.1 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most New Jersey stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 5.6 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 6.9 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 3.8 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 6.9 ft on August 2, and the lowest is −1.4 ft on January 23.
