About the tides at Metlakatla

Metlakatla has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The tide range here is very large, about 12.4 ft on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 14.9 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 11, with a range of 18.5 ft. Neap tides follow on Saturday, when the range shrinks to 8.2 ft.
