About the tides at Tamgas Harbor

Tamgas Harbor has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Ketchikan. The tide range here is very large, about 12.6 ft on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Alaska stations on this site.

Tamgas Harbor is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Ketchikan: highs come about 9 min and lows about 8 min earlier than there. The nearest other station is Metlakatla, 4 mi away. For tidal currents, see Grass Rock, Tamgas Harbor entrance.

Predictions are based on Ketchikan.

Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
