About the tides at Montauk Harbor entrance
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at New London, Thames River. Water here rises and falls only about 1.8 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most New York stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 2.8 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 1.3 ft, on Tuesday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.7 ft on July 3 and bottom out at −0.5 ft on January 23.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at New London, Thames River, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Lake Montauk, 0.1 mi away, where high tide comes about 10 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Shagwong Reef & Cerberus Shoal, between.
Predictions are based on New London, Thames River.
