About the tides at Monument Beach
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.5 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Newport, Narragansett Bay. The average range is about 4.0 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 4.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 5.7 ft on September 2, and the lowest is −0.9 ft on January 23.
Monument Beach is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Newport, Narragansett Bay: highs come about 16 min and lows about 30 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Gray Gables, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 21 min later. For tidal currents, see Hog Neck.
Predictions are based on Newport, Narragansett Bay.
