About the tides at North Fork, 2 miles above entrance
North Fork, 2 miles above entrance has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Government Cut, Miami Harbor Entrance. The mean range is small, about 1.9 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.2 ft. The next spring tides peak tomorrow, with a range of 2.6 ft. Neap tides follow on October 19, when the range shrinks to 1.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.9 ft on September 29, and the lowest is −0.9 ft on January 23.
North Fork, 2 miles above entrance is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Government Cut, Miami Harbor Entrance: highs come about 64 min and lows about 115 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1972 to 1973 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Tequesta, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 10 min later.
Predictions are based on Government Cut, Miami Harbor Entrance.
