About the tides at Ocean City Beach (fishing pier)
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 1.1 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Cape Hatteras Fishing Pier. The average range is about 4.2 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is larger than most North Carolina stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 4.7 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 6.4 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 3.2 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 6.3 ft on November 25, and the lowest is −1.2 ft on January 23.
Ocean City Beach (fishing pier) is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Cape Hatteras Fishing Pier: highs come about 3 min later and lows about 1 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1973 to 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Sneads Ferry, 10 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 54 m later.
