About the tides at Ocracoke

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. Water here rises and falls only about 0.8 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most North Carolina stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.0 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 1.6 ft on September 30 and bottom out at −0.4 ft on February 2.
