About the tides at O'Hara Key
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 1.4 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.8 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 2.7 ft. Neap tides follow on Tuesday, when the range shrinks to 1.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.6 ft on October 29, and the lowest is −0.6 ft on January 21.
O'Hara Key is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 233 min and lows about 339 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1974 to 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Shark Key, 0.9 mi away, where high tide comes about 3 h 35 m earlier. For tidal currents, see Safe Habor Entrance, Stock Island.
Predictions are based on Key West.
