About the tides at Saddlebunch Keys, Channel No. 5
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.4 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 0.7 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.3 ft. The next spring tides peak on Monday, with a range of 1.3 ft. Neap tides follow on October 20, when the range shrinks to 0.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 1.7 ft on October 28, and the lowest is −0.8 ft on January 21.
Saddlebunch Keys, Channel No. 5 is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 272 min and lows about 418 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Saddlebunch Keys, Channel No. 4, 0.5 mi away. For tidal currents, see Safe Habor Entrance, Stock Island.
Predictions are based on Key West.
