About the tides at Perico Bayou

Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.5 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay. The mean range is small, about 1.5 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.1 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 29, with a range of 2.9 ft. Neap tides follow on Thursday, when the range shrinks to 1.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.8 ft on July 4, and the lowest is −0.8 ft on January 21.

Perico Bayou is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay: highs come about 72 min and lows about 32 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Palma Sola Bay (North), 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 10 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Cortez, north of bridge.

Predictions are based on St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay.
