About the tides at Pigeon Key
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.4 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 1.1 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.5 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 2.1 ft. Neap tides follow on October 30, when the range shrinks to 1.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.1 ft on October 28, and the lowest is −0.3 ft on January 21.
Pigeon Key is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 55 min and lows about 26 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Pigeon Key, north side, Florida Bay, 0.2 mi away, where high tide comes about 45 min later.
