About the tides at Point Au Fer

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Galveston Pier 21, Galveston Channel. The mean range is small, about 1.5 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is larger than most Louisiana stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 26, with a range of 2.6 ft. Neap tides follow on October 23, when the range shrinks to 0.9 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.9 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −1.7 ft on January 21.

Point Au Fer is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Galveston Pier 21, Galveston Channel: highs come about 21 min and lows about 146 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1960 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Eugene Island, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 7 m earlier.
