About the tides at Point Au Fer

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at GALVESTON, Galveston Channel. The mean range is small, about 1.5 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is larger than most Louisiana stations on this site. The next spring tides peak tomorrow, with a range of 2.7 ft. Neap tides follow on October 8, when the range shrinks to 1.2 ft.

Point Au Fer is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting GALVESTON, Galveston Channel: highs come about 21 min and lows about 146 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1960 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Eugene Island, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 8 m earlier.
