About the tides at Shell Island

Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.2 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Galveston Pier 21, Galveston Channel. Water here rises and falls only about 1.2 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 2.3 ft, comes on October 28, and the smallest, 0.7 ft, on Friday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.2 ft on October 27 and bottom out at −1.3 ft on January 21.
