About the tides at Raccoon Point

Tides at Caillou Bay are mostly diurnal: one rise and one fall a day, with a slow change between them. The pattern follows the reference station at East Point, Grand Isle. Water here rises and falls only about 1.8 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is larger than most Louisiana stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 2.9 ft, comes on Friday, and the smallest, 0.4 ft, on October 8.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at East Point, Grand Isle, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1934 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Texas Gas Platform, 8 mi away, where high tide comes about 58 min later.
