About the tides at Ship Shoal Light

Tides at Ship Shoal Lighthouse are mostly diurnal: one rise and one fall a day, with a slow change between them. The pattern follows the reference station at Grand Isle, East Point. Water here rises and falls only about 1.5 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is larger than most Louisiana stations on this site. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.8 ft on October 29 and bottom out at −1.6 ft on January 20.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Grand Isle, East Point, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Raccoon Point, 12 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 51 m later.
