About the tides at Rhode River (County Wharf)

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Baltimore, Fort McHenry, Patapsco River. Water here rises and falls only about 0.9 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most Maryland stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 1.6 ft, comes on October 28, and the smallest, 0.8 ft, tomorrow. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 1.9 ft on July 4 and bottom out at −0.7 ft on January 22.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Baltimore, Fort McHenry, Patapsco River, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1971 to 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Galesville, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 28 min later.
