About the tides at Salem

Salem has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. With a mean range of about 8.9 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. That is larger than most Massachusetts stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 9.7 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 12.2 ft, comes on October 28, and the smallest, 5.8 ft, on Monday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 11.5 ft on December 25 and bottom out at −1.6 ft on December 25.

Predictions for Salem come from this station's own tide records. There is no live sensor, so the table shows forecast only. NOAA measured the tide here in 1992 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Beverly, 1 mi away. For tidal currents, see Fort Pickering, 0.2nm south of.
