About the tides at Lynn

Lynn has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. With a mean range of about 9.2 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. That is larger than most Massachusetts stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 9.9 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 10.7 ft, comes today, and the smallest, 6.1 ft, on October 18. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 11.9 ft on December 25 and bottom out at −2.1 ft on January 23.

Predictions for Lynn come from this station's own tide records. There is no live sensor, so the table shows forecast only. NOAA measured the tide here in 1992 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Salem, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 6 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Lynn Harbor.
