About the tides at Sarasota

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay. The mean range is small, about 1.2 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.0 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 2.9 ft. Neap tides follow on Thursday, when the range shrinks to 1.3 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.8 ft on July 4, and the lowest is −0.9 ft on January 21.

Sarasota is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay: highs come about 98 min and lows about 58 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Hayden Roberts Bay, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 5 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Golden Gate Point, off.

Predictions are based on St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay.
