About the tides at Sawpit Creek

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.6 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Fernandina Beach, Amelia River. With a mean range of about 5.1 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. That is larger than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 5.6 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 6.3 ft, comes on October 26, and the smallest, 3.9 ft, on Monday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 6.5 ft on October 27 and bottom out at −1.1 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Fernandina Beach, Amelia River, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Sawpit Creek entrance, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 19 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Midsound, 1 mi. N of Sawpit Creek entrance.

Predictions are based on Fernandina Beach, Amelia River.
