About the tides at Shalimar

Tides at Garnier Bayou, Shalimar are mostly diurnal: one rise and one fall a day, with a slow change between them. The pattern follows the reference station at Pensacola, Pensacola Bay. The mean range is small, about 0.4 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 30, with a range of 0.7 ft. Neap tides follow on Friday, when the range shrinks to 0.1 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 0.6 ft on October 2, and the lowest is −0.3 ft on January 21.

Shalimar is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Pensacola, Pensacola Bay: highs come about 213 min and lows about 183 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1973 to 1992 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Okaloosa Island, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 5 h 4 m earlier.
