About the tides at Shelltown

Shelltown has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. On a typical day the water moves about 2.3 ft between high and low. That is larger than most Maryland stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 3.0 ft, comes tomorrow, and the smallest, 1.5 ft, on October 19. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 3.5 ft on October 27 and bottom out at −0.9 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them.
