About the tides at Shem Creek

Shem Creek has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at CHARLESTON (Customhouse Wharf). On a typical day the water moves about 5.0 ft between high and low. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 6.3 ft, comes today, and the smallest, 5.4 ft, on Sunday.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at CHARLESTON (Customhouse Wharf), with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Hobcaw Point, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 21 min later. For tidal currents, see Hog Island Channel.

Predictions are based on CHARLESTON (Customhouse Wharf).
