About the tides at Skull Creek, south entrance, Hilton Head Island
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.8 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Fort Pulaski, Savannah River. The range is large, about 7.3 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most South Carolina stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 7.9 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 9.3 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −1.9 ft on January 23.
Skull Creek, south entrance, Hilton Head Island is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Fort Pulaski, Savannah River: highs come about 34 min and lows about 23 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1978 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Pinckney Island, 3 mi away. For tidal currents, see Skull Creek, south entrance.
Predictions are based on Fort Pulaski, Savannah River.
