About the tides at St. George Island, Rattlesnake Cove

St. George Island, Rattlesnake Cove has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Apalachicola, Apalachicola River. Water here rises and falls only about 1.4 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 3.2 ft, comes on October 29, and the smallest, 1.3 ft, on Thursday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 3.0 ft on October 1 and bottom out at −1.3 ft on January 21.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Apalachicola, Apalachicola River, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1972 to 2023 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is St. George Island, East End, 0.5 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 2 m earlier.
