About the tides at Steinhatchee River ent.
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Cedar Key, Gulf of Mexico. The average range is about 2.9 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is larger than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.8 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 5.3 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 2.2 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 4.8 ft on August 2, and the lowest is −1.7 ft on December 24.
Steinhatchee River ent. is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Cedar Key, Gulf of Mexico: highs come about 2 min and lows about 0 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1973 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Hagens Cove, 14 mi away, where high tide comes about 17 min later.
