About the tides at Suwannee

Suwannee has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Cedar Key, Gulf of Mexico. On a typical day the water moves about 2.6 ft between high and low. That is larger than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.5 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 3.8 ft, comes on Tuesday, and the smallest, 2.1 ft, on October 20. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 4.3 ft on August 2 and bottom out at −1.3 ft on December 24.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Cedar Key, Gulf of Mexico, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1973 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Shell Mound, 10 mi away, where high tide comes about 25 min earlier.

Predictions are based on Cedar Key, Gulf of Mexico.
