About the tides at Tinicum National Wildlife Refuge

Tinicum National Wildlife Refuge has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Philadelphia (USCG Sta.), Delaware River. The range is large, about 5.2 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 6.7 ft on August 3, and the lowest is −0.5 ft on January 25.

Tinicum National Wildlife Refuge is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Philadelphia (USCG Sta.), Delaware River: highs come about 22 min and lows about 8 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Norwood City, 0.7 mi away, where high tide comes about 20 min earlier.
