About the tides at West Bahia Honda Key
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. Water here rises and falls only about 1.2 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.7 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.5 ft on October 29 and bottom out at −0.7 ft on January 21.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Key West, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1974 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Horseshoe Keys, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 5 min earlier.
