About the tides at Horseshoe Keys

Horseshoe Keys has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 1.1 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.5 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 2.2 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 0.9 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.2 ft on October 29, and the lowest is −0.7 ft on January 21.

Horseshoe Keys is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 234 min and lows about 189 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1974 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is West Bahia Honda Key, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 5 min later. For tidal currents, see No Name Key, northeast of.

Predictions are based on Key West.
