About the tides at Westerly
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at New London, Thames River. The average range is about 2.7 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.2 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 3.9 ft. Neap tides follow on Tuesday, when the range shrinks to 1.8 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 3.7 ft on July 3, and the lowest is −0.7 ft on January 23.
Westerly is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting New London, Thames River: highs come about 21 min earlier and lows about 3 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1961 to 2015 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Weekapaug Point, 5 mi away, where high tide comes about 53 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Little Narragansett Bay entrance.
Predictions are based on New London, Thames River.
