About the tides at Watch Hill Point
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.3 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Newport, Narragansett Bay. The average range is about 2.6 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is smaller than most Rhode Island stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 3.7 ft on September 2, and the lowest is −0.6 ft on January 23.
Watch Hill Point is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Newport, Narragansett Bay: highs come about 41 min and lows about 76 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1961 to 1962 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Weekapaug Point, 5 mi away. For tidal currents, see Napatree Point, 0.7 mile southwest of.
Predictions are based on Newport, Narragansett Bay.
