About the tides at Affleck Canal entrance

Affleck Canal entrance has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Sitka. With a mean range of about 8.6 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 10.7 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 12.9 ft, comes today, and the smallest, 6.8 ft, on Friday.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Sitka, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 2005 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Point St. Albans, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 8 min earlier.
