About the tides at Amtrak RR. swing bridge
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.8 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at The Battery, New York Harbor. With a mean range of about 5.3 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. That is larger than most New Jersey stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 5.8 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 7.3 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 3.9 ft, tomorrow. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 7.2 ft on August 2 and bottom out at −1.5 ft on January 23.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at The Battery, New York Harbor, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1976 to 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Kearny Point, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 22 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Lincoln Highway Bridge, Hackensack River.
Predictions are based on The Battery, New York Harbor.
