About the tides at Point No Point

Point No Point has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at NEW YORK (The Battery). The range is large, about 5.2 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most New Jersey stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 5.7 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 10, with a range of 6.8 ft. Neap tides follow on Saturday, when the range shrinks to 5.2 ft.

Point No Point is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting NEW YORK (The Battery): highs come about 0 min and lows about 22 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1975 to 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Kearny Point, 0.7 mi away, where high tide comes about 11 min later.
