About the tides at Artificial Island
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.7 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Reedy Point, C&d Canal. The range is large, about 5.5 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most New Jersey stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 6.6 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 5.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 7.2 ft on August 2, and the lowest is −0.9 ft on January 24.
Artificial Island is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Reedy Point, C&d Canal: highs come about 35 min and lows about 33 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1987 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Hope Creek, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 10 min later. For tidal currents, see Baker Range Channel.
Predictions are based on Reedy Point, C&d Canal.
