About the tides at Hope Creek
Hope Creek has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Reedy Point. The range is large, about 5.4 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most New Jersey stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on Saturday, with a range of 6.4 ft. Neap tides follow on October 18, when the range shrinks to 4.8 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 7.0 ft on August 2, and the lowest is −0.9 ft on January 24.
Hope Creek is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Reedy Point: highs come about 25 min and lows about 36 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Artificial Island, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 10 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Alloway Creek ent., 0.2 mile above.
Predictions are based on Reedy Point.
