About the tides at Bayville
Bayville has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. The mean range is small, about 1.5 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Virginia stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 2.5 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 1.0 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.5 ft on September 30, and the lowest is −0.7 ft on January 23.
Bayville is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel: highs come about 112 min and lows about 168 min later than there. The nearest other station is Lynnhaven Inlet, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 12 m earlier. For tidal currents, see Lynnhaven Inlet bridge.
Predictions are based on Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
