About the tides at Brown Cove
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. The mean range is small, about 1.5 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Virginia stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 25, with a range of 2.1 ft. Neap tides follow on Monday, when the range shrinks to 0.9 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.4 ft on September 30, and the lowest is −0.7 ft on January 23.
Brown Cove is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel: highs come about 125 min and lows about 163 min later than there. The nearest other station is Broad Bay Canal, 2 mi away. For tidal currents, see Lynnhaven Inlet bridge.
Predictions are based on Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
