About the tides at Big Pine Key, Coupon Bight
Big Pine Key, Coupon Bight has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. Water here rises and falls only about 1.2 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.6 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.2 ft on October 28 and bottom out at −0.3 ft on January 21.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Key West, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1974 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Big Pine Key, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 24 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Bahia Honda Harbor.
Predictions are based on Key West.
Tide predictions and water levels from NOAA CO-OPS. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
